Fisher Electronics was initially founded in 1937 by Avery Fisher as Philharmonic Radio later becoming Fisher Radio. New York’s Lincoln Center is today home to “Avery Fisher” concert hall named after Fisher’s founder. Fisher’s “Studio Standard” products set the benchmark for high quality audio, and many early Fisher stereo models are still highly collectible today. In 1964, Fisher Radio introduced the 500-C Stereophonic FM Multiplex Receiver, perhaps its greatest achievement. The 500-C exemplified the near perfection Fisher had achieved in high-fidelity sound design. More than 100,000 were made. Fisher also developed the first 4 Channel (Quadraphonic) audio system and was a pioneer in surround sound which is the standard we enjoy today.
